HOUSING APPLICATIONS & DEPOSITS
When and where can I make my $250 deposit?
If you are currently living in the residence halls, you will not need to submit a new deposit. Your current deposit will simply carry over to the upcoming year! All you will need to do is re-apply online through our website. [back]
When can I submit my online application for the upcoming year?
Current residential students can apply beginning Friday, February 27th – Monday, March 23rd. Current residential students that apply after this date will lose their priority status and will not be given an assignment until after August 1st, providing rooms are still available, nor will they be able to use the new self assign feature for selecting their room and/or roommates. [back]
If I am currently living on campus and have submitted my 2009-2010 Academic year housing application and want to live with a new student coming to BSU next year, can I live with them?
No. All returning students will get to choose an assignment in either University Suites or the University Inn for the upcoming year. New students will not be eligible to live in those buildings their first year here, unless they are in one of our Residential College Programs housed in the Suites. [back]
What happens to my $250 deposit if I apply now and then decide to cancel my assignment at a later time?
If you notify University Housing in writing of your intent to cancel by June 1st, we will refund the deposit (less a $25 application processing fee) at the conclusion of the spring semester, as long as you do not have room cleaning or damage charges. If you notify us after June 1st, your deposit is forfeited. To notify us of your cancellation in writing, send an email to bsuhousing@boisestate.edu from your Broncoweb email account and include your name and student ID number. [back]
WHEN & HOW DO I CHOOSE A ROOM & ROOMMATE?
Where do I go to sign up for my room when my day to Self Assign comes up?
The Self Assign Process is all online through the University Housing website, so you will be able to access the system on any computer that is connected to the internet. [back]
How long do I have to complete the process?
When your designated Room Selection day comes you will be able to sign up from that point up until the close of Room Selection on Friday, April 24. Just keep in mind that the longer you wait to sign up, the fewer room choices there will be. [back]
As a returning student, where can I choose to live next year?
Returning residential students can select rooms at University Suites or at
University Inn for the upcoming year. The Inn will have primarily single rooms but there will also be a handful of double rooms for those students who are concerned about cost. [back]
How do I go about selecting a roommate?
Returning residential students will be able to select their roommate at the same time that they choose their room, depending on availability at the time of selection. More specific instructions on how to do this within the Self Assign function will be available in March. We will send out emails as well as post instructions on the web for you to review prior to room selection in April. [back]
What if I do not have a roommate lined up for next year
Visit with your RA or RD. There will be other students in this same situation and they might be able to suggest some names of other residents to contact. Or, on your Room Selection day, you can simply choose a room and meet your new roommate later on, once the other bed has been assigned. [back]
SELF ASSIGNMENT PROCESS (TECHNICAL ASPECTS)
What information will I need to have prior to sitting down at a computer to sign up for my room?
All students that will be participating in the Self Assign Process will need
their Broncoweb log on and password to access the Room Selection system. If you cannot remember your password, you will need to create a new one prior to signing up for a room. [back]
How long will it take for me to choose a room in Self Assign?
Once you have “locked” a suite/room, you will see a timer pop up on the screen. At that time you will have 5 minutes to select a room and a meal plan. If you are unable to finish during that time, you will automatically be timed out and will need to log in and begin again. In our test runs, 5 minutes was more time than anyone needed to finish the process, so it’s pretty quick and easy! [back]
What if a room doesn’t show up on the list of possible spaces?
It means that either the room has already been selected and is no longer available, or it means that someone currently has the room locked and may potentially select it. [back]
How can I ensure that my friend and I can live together?
There is no absolute guarantee that you will get your preferred roommate. The Self Assign system is a live process, so rooms are continually being selected and removed from the list of possible vacancies. To increase the likelihood of securing the same room/suite, it is recommended that you and your potential roommate/suitemates sit down at the computer at the same time and select rooms one after another. [back]
What if I can begin selecting a space on Monday and my preferred roommate can’t begin selecting a space until Tuesday or beyond?
It is our recommendation that you choose a room as soon as you are able to. If you wait until your preferred roommate’s selection time, the availability of rooms will be lessened. [back]
How do I change my room assignment after I have already confirmed my selection?
You will not be able to make changes until 2 weeks into the fall semester. The system will not allow you to log-in for a second time, so please make sure that you are sure of your choice before you hit the final confirmation button. [back]
