
Caile Spear was the first doctoral student accepted into University of Arkansas Health Science program. She joined the Kinesiology department in 1996 to supervise the Health Promotion program. The program has grown from 40 to almost 80 majors. Research areas include abstinence-based sexuality education, asset development in youth, community based participatory research, service-learning and health promotion. She has published in the American Journal of Health Behavior, American Journal of Health Education and American Journal of Health Studies.
Caile is actively involved in service and service-learning with the Health Promotion majors. She is served as the AAHE Research Coordinating Board convention coordinator for 2005, was vice-president for Health Education with NWAAHPERD, served as conference planner for the Idaho STD/AIDS state conference, was the 2002 NW AAHPERD Conference chair, reviews grants for the Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and for ETR and Associates and teaches grant writing classes. The Health Promotion majors work in the community providing health education and each fall the seniors put on the REACH Health Fair for Boise State University and the surrounding community.
