The Residential College enriches student learning through direct connection with live-in faculty who bridge academic and personal life and foster interdisciplinary inquiry.

It is an honor to be a member of the Residential College. Spaces are limited. Priority is given to students who show commitment to these values.

 

Residential College Intended Learning Outcomes
Residential Colleges within large Universities and in particular a metropolitan commuter campus have positive impacts on student learning, retention, and faculty development. To maximize the impact, Residential Colleges at Boise State University shall do the following to support and enhance “Charting the Course”:

5) Promote diverse communities that foster faculty, staff, and student interaction
8) Provide student-centered services

(h) Create active learning opportunities in-class and out-of-class
(l) Build residential communities for students, faculty, and staff
(m) Facilitate faculty collaborations across departments and colleges
(o) Schedule, promote, and facilitate involvement in cultural and intellectual events


Students in Residential Colleges will:

   • Develop a sense of belonging in the residence hall and the larger University community
   • Experience higher academic achievement
   • Increase curricular and co-curricular interactions with other students, faculty and staff
   • More readily achieve the articulated learning outcomes specific to each sponsoring College and University Housing,       as compared to students not in the Residential College
   • Demonstrate increased awareness and utilization of College and University resources
   • Demonstrate improved knowledge and skills related to a student’s major and career opportunities
   • Experience a higher level of satisfaction with the University experience
   • Show a greater rate of persistence at the University
   • Be exposed to learning opportunities that support a student in becoming a responsible member of the broader global       community

Faculty participants will also benefit from participation in Residential Colleges. Faculty and staff involved in Residential Colleges will experience:

   • Extensive collaboration with students, faculty and staff
   • Increased implementation of active and collaborative teaching and learning strategies
   • Direct connections between curricular and co-curricular experiences
   • Increased knowledge about students and their development
   • Improved reflective practice
   • Increased knowledge about university resources
   • Increased involvement in professional development activities
   • Increased recognition and reward.
